Cabernet Sauvignon – The “King of Grapes” This thick skinned “noble” red grape is one of the most planted in the world. Producing red wines high in tannins and flavor.
Merlot – This red grape produces medium bodied, fruit-driven wines.
Cabernet Franc – Produces an aromatic red wine that is softer than Cabernet Sauvignon.
Chambourcin – This red French-American hybrid grape grows well in the Yadkin Valley and makes fruity, smoky, deep colored red wines.
Chardonnay – Green skinned grape used to make light to medium bodied white wine. This is one of the four “noble” grapes due to its ability to make great wines.
Viognier – A white wine grape that produces floral, spicy wines. Native to the Northern Rhone region of France, this grape is growing in popularity in North Carolina and the rest of the world.
Petit Verdot – This red grape is a classic Bordeaux variety. Usually blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to add color, flavor, and mid-palate structure.
Seyval Blanc – A white French-American hybrid grape usually made into a sweet or off dry floral wine. This is the most grown variety in England.
